Hiring A Full-Time Sous Chef – 40+ hrs a week 

Our sous chef position offers the opportunity to cook and create Nordic and American dishes in a professional environment. The Norwegian offers additional opportunities to work our special private events. 

Our Company: The Norwegian is a 92-seat brunch pub and music venue with a coffee parlour, dining room, and bar. Our clean and comfortable old-world café is in the heart of Rockford’s North End. The Norwegian strives to take great care of our patrons and employees alike.  

The Position: This position pays $15 an hour, with opportunities for raises. We will pay for all necessary training. 

Requirements: Experience creating dishes is required. Experience cooking over an open flame and with a fryer is required; experience cooking breakfast is preferred. Our sous chef position requires a willingness to learn, attention to detail, organization skills, an efficient work pace, and—above all—a love of food. The ability to communicate clearly and kindly to staff is required. The ability to work weekends is required. 

Responsibilities: The sous chef will work with the chef to execute a seasonal menu and create daily specials.  The sous chef will work the oven/range/fryer during daily operations and special events.  The sous chef will keep order in the kitchen and understand the importance of mis en place.  The sous chef will keep a clean kitchen, minimizing waste, and maintaining in-house and health department standards. The sous chef will be able to place food orders and understand plate costs.

Grillardin/Saucier & Poissonnier

Hiring A Part-Time Grillardin/Saucier/Poissonnier – 8-30 hrs

Lefse Maker & Patissier

Hiring A Part-Time Lefse Maker/Baker – 5-10 hrs a week 

Our lefse maker position offers the opportunity to work a flexible schedule in a friendly work environment. Baked goods and lefse will be a staple on our menu; this position is an integral part of our team. 

Our Company: The Norwegian is a 92-seat brunch pub and music venue with a coffee parlour, dining room, and bar. Our clean and comfortable old-world café is in the heart of Rockford’s North End. The Norwegian strives to take great care of our patrons and employees alike.  

The Position: This position pays $15 an hour. We will pay for ServSafe training. This position allows the right person to work either early mornings or in the afternoon to make our product each week.  The lefse maker/baker may set their own schedule. 

Requirements:  Experience making lefse is required.  A basic familiarity with kitchen equipment is required.  A willingness to learn and a love of baking is required. 

Responsibilities:  The lefse maker/baker will make enough lefse for each week.  They will also learn to make kanelsnurre (knotted cinnamon roll), krumkake (wafer cookie), rundstykker (morning rolls), and our house granola.  We are willing to work through these recipes with the right candidate.

Bartender & Barista

Hiring A Part-Time Bartender/Barista – 8-30 hrs a week 

Our bartender/barista position offers the opportunity to not only create specialty drinks to be featured on our menu, but also connect with our community and our clientele. The Norwegian provides additional opportunities to work special private events.

The Position: This position pays $6 an hour, plus tips. We offer the potential for raises. We will pay for all necessary training. 

Requirements: Experience bartending is required; barista experience is preferred.  Our bartending/barista position requires a willingness to learn, attention to detail, organization skills, and an efficient work pace. The ability to communicate clearly and kindly to our clientele is required. The ability to work weekends is required. 

Responsibilities: The barista/bartender will efficiently make drinks for patrons sitting at the bar, as well as for seated tables. Daily activities include washing glasses and keeping the bar area clean (in accordance with the in-house and health department standards), as well as taking and delivering meal orders to patrons at the bar. During slow times, the barista/bartender will also take drink and/or meal orders from seated tables. The barista/bartender will complete all assigned side/closing work in a timely manner, maintain an accurate cash drawer, attend any training sessions regarding new menu items/drinks, and learn basic kitchen skills.
